鈥淛ob shadowing sessions are about the students, to ask questions, or make comments that can help guide them in their journey of development.鈥 鈥 Joel Pierre, Senior D365 Solution Architect at KMicro

Join me and my peers as we learn about Joel鈥檚 current position as a 鈥淪enior D365 Solution architect at KMicro and Chief Financial Officer for Alveus鈥, and his journey to getting there. Before diving right into the session, I was given an overview of what our online Job Shadowing would cover; His day-to-day responsibilities, how to start a similar path, and certified learning portals.

With a couple of questions in hand, I nervously waited for the session to start. I met my peers and host through brief introductions, and went straight into an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system used; Business Central. Going through the things it can do was a bit overwhelming to fully understand, but I can confidently say that it鈥檚 a useful tool to record financial data. Despite the intimating appearance and functionality, we were reassured that the tricky tasks are smaller than they appear. He also added that it was only the matter of building up those individual skills and developing as a person.

Don鈥檛 You Need A Degree In Finance To Be A Senior Solution Architect?

Surprisingly, no. As the session progressed, Joel shared his journey of how he got to this current position. He started with temporary positions, and eventually used recruiters, like VPI Employment Services, Randstad, Robert Half, etc. He recommended that we signup for programs that could give us a competitive edge in the market, and to gain knowledge. He suggested ; which certifies your skills on LinkedIn after taking an online course. He also mentioned ; where you immerse yourself in podcasts, while learning about business insights.

Job Shadowing made me appreciate the hosts for taking the time in their day to provide us with so many resources and tips. I also want to extend my appreciation to the AA&CC for organizing the Job Shadowing program, and for giving students the chance to learn more about the outside world.
