Did You Know Work Terms Across Canada or Internationally are Possible as Part of the Co-op Program?
As a University of Toronto Co-op Student, you have the ability to complete your work term outside of just Toronto.
Here are the things to consider before embarking on the work term:

| Are there travel advisories for the country you are looking in, going to or currently in? | NOTE: If the co-op office has posted a position we have already ensured that the work term is to a country that is permitted for travel. If you are an international student and currently in your home country, and the country is listed as 鈥淎void non-essential travel鈥 OR 鈥淎void travel鈥, please speak with your Work Term Engagement Coordinator. |
Legally Entitled to Work
| Are you legally entitled to work in the destination country? What permits, VISAs or other requirements will you need to get? | NOTE: It is the student's responsibility to ensure eligibility to work in the work term country. For specific information on the requirements for Canadians working abroad, contact the destination country鈥檚 embassy or consulate in Canada. For international students please check with the destination country鈥檚 embassy on what is required for you to work in another country. The University has a partnership with Cultural Vistas which will provide a reduced rate for students who are looking for support to secure their J1 VISA if their work term is in the US. |
Learning and Safety Abroad Planning | What are the safety abroad requirements? | All students going on work term outside of Canada are required to register with Safety Abroad at U of T. |
Travel & Health Insurance | What travel and or health insurance do I need? | It is recommended you have travel and health insurance while on work term outside of Canada. |
Housing | Where will you live while on work term? | The co-op employer may provide relocation support and recommendations for housing while on work term. It is your responsibility to cover cost of living while on work term. |
Travel | What are the costs to travel to the destination for my work term? | It is your responsibility to cover costs for travel tickets and any vaccinations you may require. |
