You can view this video on creating notes using this method:
If you like using the outlining method during class because of its quickness, the matrix method can be used to help re-organize your notes to better demonstrate connections between topics. It is recommended that the matrix method is used after the lecture.
You can create tables with different headings and subheadings to show connections and comparisons. In this example, a table has been made to show the different ways to make a behaviour happen more often and how to make a behaviour occur less often.
Advantages
- Organizes the ideas in the lecture in a way that is easy to read
- Easier to see connections and comparisons between different concepts
- Good for students with strong visual skills
- Good for subjects requiring comparison and contrast of different topics
Disadvantages
- Best for independent study notes as this is difficult to use as an in-class method
- Most effective if you have prior knowledge on the topic (i.e. have notes you need to reorganize)
