VP Academic & Dean Ruhlandt - Messaging to Students

Welcome and welcome back, new and returning students!

As your new Vice-Principal Academic & Dean, I’m looking forward to meeting you and ensuring that the 2024-25 academic year affords you amazing classes to experience, with the supports you need to reach your goals. I arrived at the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú over the summer, coming from Syracuse University, where I was Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences for eight years. The more I learn about the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú, the more impressed I am with the advanced facilities, the amazing faculty who care, and tight-knit campus community with a shared goal: making sure you, our students, thrive.

Our world-class faculty and dedicated staff support an array of interesting classes and programs across environmental sciences, management, the humanities, health sciences and more. Our programs are designed to be flexible so that you can customize your degree around your unique interests and goals, whether you choose a double major, a major and two minors, or a specialist. Many of our programs also have co-op options, which add paid, full-time work experience to your studies. Our students work with several of the top employers and major organizations in Canada, and you’ll graduate with real-world experience, connections in the field, and the knowledge and skills to succeed. For more information on your co-op opportunities and supports – .

I’ve already discovered quite a few unexpected things about °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú that make a difference here too: green spaces where I can take my dog Bear for a walk; art galleries; access to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, one of the most impressive campus athletic facilities in Canada; brand new classrooms and labs with cutting-edge technologies; the new Scarborough Academy of Medicine & Integrated Health, and so much more. I like to make a difference in what I do, and °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú is a place where I feel you can do just that.

I look forward to seeing you on campus for Welcome Day or during Orientation, and be sure to come and have fun at Homecoming. Know that at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú you are part of a supportive, engaged campus with much to offer. It’s important to ask questions along the way, so please reach out if you like at VP Dean’s Comment Box. Wishing you success on your academic journey this year!
