Start-up funds are intended to assist new tenure stream faculty to establish competitive research programs.
Start-up funds may be directed toward the following areas:
- Research infrastructure, research equipment acquisition, research equipment operation and maintenance
- Support for research personnel, including undergraduate or graduate student stipends, postdoctoral fellowships, research assistants or associates, and clerical costs related to research
- Professional/technical research service fees
- Research materials, supplies, and other expendables
- Travel for research conferences/workshops
- Travel to conduct research
- Research dissemination costs, including research publication charges
New faculty members are asked to propose a spending plan for their start-up funds. Progress will be reported to unit heads on an annual basis.
