What is Women鈥檚 Programming?

The Women鈥檚 Programs, offered by the Department of Athletics & Recreation, aims to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere to our UTSC community. This space welcomes all self-identifying cisgender and trans women. Please note: the Women鈥檚 Only programs and hours are delivered and supervised by women-identifying staff.

What does privacy look like in these spaces?

We understand that many women face barriers when accessing programs related to physical activity, and we strive to ensure their safety and comfort in our programs and facilities.

  • Women鈥檚 Drop-In Fitness Hours take place in the section to the far right of the lower-level Fitness Centre, where the curtain is pulled to provide privacy.
  • Women鈥檚 Drop-In Swim and Aquatics Programs take place in the Training Pool where the doors are closed, and blinds are drawn to provide privacy.
  • Women鈥檚 instructional classes take place in the studios and other program spaces, and we make every effort to ensure privacy.

Why offer Women鈥檚 Programming?

While women currently constitute over half of U of T鈥檚 student body, they continue to be under-represented in most forms of physical activity. Women鈥檚 Programming aims to optimize participation, reduce barriers to being active, and foster inclusivity across culture, religion and ability level.

Women鈥檚 Programs are targeted needs-based initiatives designed to ensure equitable participation in physical activity. The programs are aligned with UTSC鈥檚 guidelines and strategic plans regarding Inspiring Inclusive Excellence.

If you do not identify as a woman, we kindly ask participants to respect this space and please come back at a different time.
