Project: Laptop Bars

Date Occupied: 2019-2021

BV Laptop Bars

Description: Recognizing the need for additional good quality study space, a program of laptop bar projects is being introduced across campus. These spaces provide table and counter height stations with access to power and enhanced lighting in publicly accessible locations. Ergonomic seating is introduced at two levels to provide choice and allow for equitable access for students of all abilities. The recently completed (winter 2021) ARC building laptop bar spaces were supported by the University of Toronto Student Space Enhancement Fund.

Project: Infant Feeding Room

Date Occupied: October 2021

Description: In support of our growing graduate student population, unique spaces such as this infant feeding room are being introduced on campus. The room, located adjacent to the graduate student lounge provides quiet, private feeding space for parents of infants to use while on campus. The room is bookable and includes comfortable seating and amenities, including a changing and wash-up area and refrigerator. Calming colours and lighting were chosen to support the use.

Project: Student Hangout Space (coming soon)

In the winter of 2021, while much of our campus activity was virtual, we undertook a campus space planning exercise.  One question we asked our community was, 鈥榳hat do you miss most about being on campus?鈥 We heard resoundingly 鈥淔RIENDS鈥 and 鈥淪PACE鈥 to study, for community, for social interaction, for quiet, for meeting friends鈥︹

One project that will help support these needs for our student community who are now back together, is the Bladen Student Hangout space.  A mezzanine level locker room is being transformed to an accessible student lounge and hang out space that will provide a variety of more casual options for students to meet and gather. This space is partially funded by the Provost鈥檚 Student Space Enhancement University Fund (SSEUF). Student Hangout Space
